Overview
This course is aimed at candidates who require training for operating a Piling Rig Bored Above 20 Tonnes competently and safely.
Course Content
Candidates will be able to:
- Name and explain the purpose of principal plant components, the basic construction, controls and terminology
- Conform with manufacturer’s requirements as per the operator’s handbook, and relevant regulations and legislation
- Undertake all pre-use plant equipment checks
- Outline their role in setting up and rigging equipment
- Explain the purpose of having work platform certificates
- Manoeuvre in confined spaces
- Guide a piling rig to a given location including through areas of limited space
- Explain actions required for hazards, underground and overhead services
- Explain how rigs are configured for travel
- Comply with signals and instructions
- Maintain safe working situations
- Explain lifting requirements and limitations using a piling rig
- Assist in shut down and securing procedures
- Explain the de-rigging, loading and unloading procedures for machine transporting
Entry Requirements
Candidates must have achieved the relevant CITB Health, Safety & Environment (HS&E) touch-screen-test within 2 years.
Good understanding of spoken and written English.
Duration
This will vary depending on experience, previous training, delegate numbers and site restrictions and we therefore, don’t adopt a ‘one size fits all’ approach to our course delivery. Please speak to one of our trusted advisors to determine a bespoke delivery package.

Next Steps
To upgrade your card to Blue, you will need to complete the Level 2 NVQ Certificate in Piling Operations – Piling Rig Operator and an Operatives Health, Safety and Environment Test completed within the last 2 years.
