
Overview
This course is suitable for supervisors and managers with responsibility for lifting operations.
It will enable candidates to undertake the duties of a Crane Supervisor learning how to comply with relevant legislation, regulations, Codes of Practice and industrial requirements.
Course Content
- Legislation, regulations and Codes of Practice relating to lifting duties
- Safe systems of work including method statements
- Taking personal responsibility
- Different types of cranes and associated terminology
- Understanding crane documentation
- Understanding crane stability, duty charts and safety devices
- Crane appreciation
- Observing British Standard 7121
- Understanding the role of crane supervisor
- Understanding the role of appointed person
- Preparing an area with exclusion zones
Entry Requirements
Candidates should have enough experience of cranes to meet the requirements specified in the British Standard 7121 Safe Use of Cranes.
Candidates must have achieved the relevant CITB Health, Safety & Environment (HS&E) touch-screen-test within 2 years.
Good understanding of spoken and written English.
Assessment
- Three (3) Days Training – Classroom-based and Practical Training
- One (1) Day – CPCS Testing

Next Steps
To upgrade your card to Blue, you will need to complete the Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Controlling Lifting Operations – Supervising Lifts and a Supervisors Health, Safety and Environment Test completed within the last 2 years.
