Overview

This course is suitable for anyone who is likely to find themselves taking charge of, or who has been appointed to take charge of a first aid situation.

This one-day course is recommended as a minimum level of training in low-risk work environments. During the 1-day course candidates will develop the skills to deal with numerous emergency first aid situations, including CPR, shock, bleeding and minor injuries.

Course Content

Candidates will understand:

  • Principles of first aid
  • The action to be taken in the event of an emergency
  • The correct method of basic life support
  • AED (Use of an AED, chain of survival)

This course will cover:

  • Aims and principles of first aid
  • What to do in an emergency
  • Management of the unconscious casualty
  • Assessment and treatment of a casualty who is wounded or bleeding
  • Assessment and treatment of burns and scalds
  • Dealing with seizures
  • Choking (Adult)
  • Resuscitation (Adult CPR)
  • Shock
  • Health & Safety (First Aid) Regulations

Entry Requirements

Good understanding of spoken and written English.

Assessment

Assessment will be carried out throughout the course through observation and written exercises.

Successful candidates will be issued with a certificate valid for 3 years.
