Overview

This course is aimed at candidates who are already qualified to operate telescopic handlers and require knowledge and practical skills to transport suspended loads safely and correctly.

Course Content

Candidates will be able to:

  • Understand the industry, the dangers of working in the industry and their responsibilities as an operator
  • Conform to manufacturers requirements as per technical data, conform to relevant regulations and legislation
  • Locate, identify and explain safe working loads, lifting capacity chart and explain how the manufacturer may reduce the lifting capacity when moving a suspended load, different lifting configurations and working ranges
  • Identify and explain different lifting procedures, explain what task could fall into each category
  • Identify and explain centres of gravity and calculate estimated weights of loads
  • Identify any overhead/proximity hazards
  • Agree the signal codes/hand signals, direction of movement, safe working and safe landing placement zone with the slinger/signaller
  • Ensure telescopic handler is in a safe condition and attachments fitted correctly
  • Check load integrity and security
  • Lift and move a load to a designated position in a safe and controlled manner, ensuring minimum uncontrolled movement
  • Understand environmental considerations
  • Carry out all out of service and securing procedures

Entry Requirements

NPORS CSCS – Candidates must have achieved the relevant CITB Health, Safety & Environment (HS&E) touch-screen-test within 2 years.

Good understanding of spoken and written English.

Duration

Novice course – 2 days depending upon experience

Experienced worker tests – 1 day theory and practical assessment

Location

Customer Site (Training & Testing) – Site must adhere to NPORS specifications

Next Steps

NPORS Traditional Card – There are no requirements to complete an NVQ, a five year card is issued and after five years reassessment is required.

To upgrade your card to Blue, you will need to complete the Level 2 NVQ Certificate in Plant Operations – Attachments and an Operatives Health, Safety and Environment Test completed within the last 2 years.
