Course Overview

This course will give you foundation training and assessment in undertaking

Appointed person duties and is suitable if you have received no formal instruction or, if you wish to refresh your skills.

• Course Duration: Novice 5 Days & Experienced Worker Tests 1 Day
• Card Validity: Traditional – 5 Years/Trained Operator – 2 Years

Entry Requirements

• NPORS CSCS – Candidates must have achieved the relevant CITB Health, Safety &.
• Environment (HS&E) touch-screen-test within 2 years.
• Good understanding of spoken and written English.

Course Content

• Legislation LOLER, PUWER, HASAWA.
• Codes of practice BS7121.
• Roles and responsibilities of personnel involved with lifting operations.
• Crane appreciation, crane types, capabilities and limitations.
• Duty charts.
• Crane terminology.
• Documentation and certification for lifting equipment and lifting accessories.
• Crane stability/ground conditions.
• Safe Load Indicators (SLI) and Safe Working Loads (SWL).
• Lifting accessories.
• Types of accessories and use.
• Slinging techniques.
• Down rating of accessories.
• Sling angles.
• Communications.
• Planning a lifting operation.

Assessment

Novice – Five (5) Days – Classroom-based and Practical Training and testing

Refresher – Two (2) Day – Classroom-based and Practical Training and testing

Certification

Successful candidates will be issued with an NPORS Traditional Operator card (valid for 5 years) or an NPORS Red Trained Operator card (valid for 2 years).

Next Steps

• NPORS Traditional Card – There are no requirements to complete an NVQ, a five year card is issued and after five years reassessment is required.
• To upgrade your card to Blue, you will need to complete the Level 5 NVQ Certificate in Controlling Lifting Operations – Planning Lifts and an Managers Health, Safety and Environment Test completed within the last 2 years.
