This course is aimed at candidates that require the knowledge and practical skills operate Road Rollers to compact a variety of ground.

• Course Duration: Novice 3 Days & Experienced Worker Tests 1 Day
• Card Validity: Traditional – 5 Years/Trained Operator – 2 Years

Entry Requirements

• NPORS CSCS – Candidates must have achieved the relevant CITB Health, Safety &.
• Environment (HS&E) touch-screen-test within 2 years.
• Good understanding of spoken and written English.

Course Content

• Understand the industry, the dangers of working in the industry and their responsibilities as an operator.
• Understand the manufacturer’s handbook for the particular machine to be used.
• Locate and identify the major components of the machine and explain their functions.
• Locate and identify key controls and explain their functions.
• Conduct all pre-operational checks in accordance with manufacturer’s and legislative requirements.
• Identify and maintain PPE appropriate for roller use.
• Prepare the roller for use and operate machinery safely and efficiently.
• Conduct all necessary safety checks at the work area.
• Operate machinery safely and efficiently.
• Understand environmental considerations.
• Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of loading and unloading procedures for machine transportation.
• Carry out all end of shift and shut down procedures.

Assessment

Novice – Three (3) Days – Classroom-based and Practical Training and testing

Experienced Worker Tests – One (1) Day – Theory and Practical Tests

Certification

Successful candidates will be issued with an NPORS Traditional Operator card (valid for 5 years) or an NPORS Red Trained Operator card (valid for 2 years).

Next Steps

• NPORS Traditional Card – There are no requirements to complete an NVQ, a five year card is issued and after five years reassessment is required.
• To upgrade your card to Blue, you will need to complete the Level 2 NVQ Certificate in Plant Operations – Compacting and an Operatives Health, Safety and Environment Test completed within the last 2 years.
