About the NVQ

Surveying within construction contracting means collecting and analysing survey data, recording the condition of property, and using that information to support decisions across a project — alongside the core skills of running health, safety, programmes and project information systems that every contracting operations role needs. The Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Construction Contracting Operations (Surveying) gives experienced surveying staff a nationally recognised way to have that competence formally assessed.

Who Is This NVQ For?

This Level 3 NVQ is built for people already working in a surveying role within construction contracting, who want that experience formally recognised.

It’s particularly well suited to:

• Surveying staff who collect, analyse and present survey data to support project decisions
• Surveyors recording the condition of property before, during or after works
• Site-based surveying staff who also handle costs and accounts, and coordinate with other project roles
• Contractors bidding for contracts that require certified, competent surveying staff at Level 3

We deliver this NVQ nationwide, on your own site, working around your existing job and workload so you don’t need to travel or take time off to complete it.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this construction NVQ.

Centres carry out an initial assessment of candidate skills and knowledge to identify any gaps and help plan the assessment route.

Qualification Structure

To achieve the ProQual Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Construction Contracting Operations – Surveying, candidates must complete:

Mandatory Units

• Operate health, safety and welfare systems in construction
• Prepare programmes and schedules of work in construction
• Operate project information systems in construction
• Develop and maintain working relationships and personal development in construction
• Prepare and monitor costs and accounts in construction

Optional Units (choose two)

• Prepare for, collect, analyse and present survey data in construction
• Record the condition of property in construction
• Integrate and control project design information in construction
• Prepare drawings and schedules in construction
• Prepare and process invitations to tender in construction
• Prepare estimates, bids and tenders in construction
• Prepare for work operations in construction
• Establish and maintain the dimensional control of construction works
• Prepare for and carry out physical testing in construction
• Assess, plan and monitor project methods and progress in construction
• Prepare proposals and obtain feedback for the provision of products and services in construction
• Implement contract work in construction
• Monitor, maintain and improve supplies of materials in construction
• Recommend and monitor supplies of plant and equipment in construction

This is a workplace-based NVQ, meaning your everyday work activities provide the evidence required to demonstrate competence.

Assessment methods may include:

• Assessor observations
• Professional discussions
• Witness testimonies
• Work products and site records
• Assignments and reports
• Oral and written questioning
• Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

Certification

Upon successful completion, candidates will receive:

• A ProQual certificate for Level 3 in Construction Contracting Operations – Surveying

CITB Grant Funding

CITB-registered employers may be eligible to claim a £600 Short Qualification Grant upon successful completion of this NVQ.
