Course Overview

This course is for operators who are not required to operate plant and machinery to its full capacity.

Training will cover non-operational duties of moving plant and may be suited to those who will move machinery in the workplace for maintenance, repair, delivery & collection purposes. This could include plant fitters, delivery drivers and plant mechanics.

Entry Requirements

NPORS CSCS – Candidates must have achieved the relevant CITB Health, Safety &.
Environment (HS&E) touch-screen-test within 2 years.
Good understanding of spoken and written English.

Course Content

Understand the industry, the dangers of working in the industry and their responsibilities as an operator.
Understand the manufacturer’s handbook for the particular machine to be used.
Locate and identify the major components of the machine and explain their functions.
Locate and identify key controls and explain their functions.
Conduct all pre-operational checks in accordance with manufacturer’s and legislative requirements.
Identify and maintain PPE appropriate for plant mover use.
Prepare machinery for use and operate machinery safely and efficiently.
Conduct all necessary safety checks at the work area.
Understand environmental considerations.

Assessment

Novice – Two (2) Days – Classroom-based and Practical Training and testing

Experienced Worker Tests – One (1) Day – Theory and Practical Tests

Certification

Successful candidates will be issued with an NPORS Traditional Operator card (valid for 5 years) or an NPORS Red Trained Operator card (valid for 2 years).

Next Steps

NPORS Traditional Card – There are no requirements to complete an NVQ, a five year card is issued and after five years reassessment is required.
To upgrade your card to Blue, you will need to complete the Level 2 NVQ Certificate in Plant Operations – Movement Guide and an Operatives Health, Safety and Environment Test completed within the last 2 years.
Store and transport machinery attachments.
Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of loading and unloading procedures for machine transportation.
Carry out all end of shift and shut down procedures.
