Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this multi-trade repair and refurbishment NVQ.

All candidates complete an initial skills assessment to identify any knowledge gaps and plan the right assessment route for their role and experience.

Qualification Structure

To achieve the ProQual Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Building Maintenance Multi-Trade Repair and Refurbishment Operations, candidates must complete:

Mandatory Units

• Conforming to General Health, Safety and Welfare in the Workplace
• Conforming to Productive Working Practices in the Workplace
• Moving, Handling and Storing Resources in the Workplace
• Deliver Reliable Customer Service

Optional Group A – (choose one unit)

• Erecting and Dismantling Access/Working Platforms in the Workplace
• Installing, Maintaining and Removing Work Area Protection and Safety Equipment in the Workplace
• Clearing the Site and Handing Over on Completion in the Workplace

Optional Groups B–G (choose your trade route — required units from two groups)

Each group below requires two units, and both units carry a “building maintenance” endorsement:

Group B – Maintenance Carpentry and Joinery

• Maintaining Non-structural Carpentry Work in the Workplace
• Maintaining Non-structural Components in the Workplace
• Repairing, Replacing and Renewing Gates, Posts and Fencing in the Workplace

Group C – Maintenance Painting and Decorating

• Applying Paint Systems by Brush and Roller in the Workplace
• Hanging Standard Paper Wallcoverings in the Workplace
• Preparing Background Surfaces for Plastering, Tiling, Panelling or Painting/Decorating in the Workplace

Group D – Maintenance Tiling

• Tiling Wall and Floor Surfaces in the Workplace
• Preparing Background Surfaces for Plastering, Tiling, Panelling or Painting/Decorating in the Workplace
• Removing and Renewing Floor Screeds in the Workplace

Group E – Maintenance Plastering

• Preparing Background Surfaces for Plastering, Tiling, Panelling or Painting/Decorating in the Workplace
• Applying Finishing Plaster to Prepared Surfaces in the Workplace

Group F – Maintenance Roofing

• Maintaining Slate and Tile Roofing in the Workplace
• Repairing Sheeting and Cladding Systems on Roofs and Walls, including Rainscreen, in the Workplace
• Repair Membrane Roofing Systems in the Workplace
• Removing and Repairing Eaves and Verge Finishings in the Workplace

Group G — Maintenance Trowel Occupations

• Repairing and maintaining masonry structures in the workplace
• Repairing basic stonemasonry structures in the workplace

How You’re Assessed

This is a workplace-based NVQ, meaning your everyday work activities provide the evidence required to demonstrate competence.

Assessment methods may include:

• Assessor observations
• Professional discussions
• Witness testimonies
• Work products and site records
• Assignments and reports
• Oral and written questioning
• Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

Our assessors work around your existing responsibilities, making the process flexible and straightforward while minimising disruption to your workload.

Certification

Upon successful completion, candidates will receive:

• A ProQual certificate for Level 2 in Building Maintenance Multi-Trade Repair and Refurbishment Operations (Construction)

CITB Grant Funding

CITB-registered employers may be eligible to claim a £600 Short Qualification Grant upon successful completion of this NVQ.
