This combined CPCS programme trains candidates to operate both a forward tipping dumper and a ride‑on roller safely and efficiently. The course covers machine controls, pre‑use checks, safe manoeuvring, loading, compaction techniques, and full CPCS test preparation.

Entry Requirements

To attend this combined CPCS course or test, candidates must have:

• A valid CITB Health, Safety & Environment (HS&E) Test passed within the last 2 years
• A basic understanding of health and safety
• A good understanding of spoken and written English

What You Will Learn

A09A Forward Tipping Dumper

Candidates will learn how to:

• Operator roles and responsibilities
• Fitting and operating ancillary equipment
• Safe and effective machine siting
• Routine servicing and minor adjustments
• Preparing the dumper for public highway travel
• Understanding machine capabilities and limitations
• Diesel engine basics and safety precautions

A31 Ride‑On Roller

Candidates will learn how to:

• Operator roles and responsibilities
• Identifying components, controls, and terminology
• Understanding relevant regulations and legislation
• Completing pre‑use checks
• Manoeuvring in confined spaces
• Configuring the roller for travel and compaction
• Identifying hazards including underground/overhead services
• Compacting straight lines, radii, supported and unsupported edges
• Understanding compaction principles and techniques
• Shutdown, securing, loading and unloading for transport

Assessment

The combined CPCS assessment includes:

• CPCS Theory Tests (verbal, recorded) for both A09A and A31
• CPCS Practical Tests on both machines

The Assessment routes available are:

• Foundation Course: 4 days (training and tests)
• Experienced Worker Assessment: 2 days (no practical training included) – please enquire with the team for prices.
• Test Only: For highly experienced operators

Please note: Candidates taking the test‑only route must already have substantial, recent on‑site experience operating both machines. Practical experience is strongly recommended before attempting CPCS assessments.
