About the Course
The CPCS A09A Forward Tipping Dumper course trains candidates to operate a wheeled forward tipping dumper safely, efficiently, and in line with industry regulations. The programme covers safe operation, pre‑use checks, manoeuvring, loading and tipping procedures, and the CPCS technical test requirements.
Training is delivered by experienced instructors and includes both theory and practical elements to prepare candidates for the CPCS theory and practical tests.

Entry Requirements
To attend the CPCS A09A course or test, candidates must have:
- A valid CITB Health, Safety & Environment (HS&E) Test passed within the last 2 years
- A good understanding of spoken and written English
What You Will Learn
Candidates will learn how to:
- Operate the dumper to CPCS standards
- Follow the operator’s handbook, regulations, and safety guidance
- Complete all pre‑use checks
- Fit and operate ancillary equipment
- Site the machine safely and efficiently
- Carry out routine servicing and minor adjustments
- Prepare the dumper for travel on public highways
- Travel loaded and unloaded over varied terrain
- Manoeuvre safely in confined spaces
- Assess tipping and loading suitability
- Maintain load integrity and security
- Transfer and discharge loads, including into trenches and over edges
- Keep the work area safe and tidy
- Shut down and secure the machine correctly
- Understand loading and unloading procedures for transport
- Understand machine capabilities, limitations, and safety precautions
- Learn diesel engine basics and key operating systems
Assessment
Training includes classroom theory and practical exercises, followed by the CPCS Technical Tests:
- CPCS Theory Test (verbal, recorded)
- CPCS Practical Test on a forward tipping dumper
Please note: Candidates taking the test‑only route should already have substantial, recent on‑site experience operating a forward tipping dumper. Practical experience is strongly recommended before attempting the CPCS tests.
Certification
Candidates who pass both tests receive the CPCS Red Trained Operator Card for the A09A Forward Tipping Dumper (Wheeled) category, valid for 2 years.
