About the NVQ

Installing sheeting and cladding on roofs and walls is specialist work — getting the systems, fixings and weatherproofing right protects the building for decades. The Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Cladding Occupations gives experienced cladders a nationally recognised way to have that competence formally assessed.

If you’re already doing this work, it turns your day-to-day cladding experience into formal, recognised proof of your competence — giving you the opportunity to take on more responsibility in the workplace and opening the door to the Blue Skilled Worker CSCS Card.

Who Is This NVQ For?

This Level 2 NVQ is built for people already working in cladding and sheeting installation, who want that experience formally recognised.

It’s particularly well suited to:

• Cladders installing sheeting and cladding systems on roofs and walls
• Operatives working with built-up, standing seam, secret fix, composite panel or fibre-cement systems
• Contractors bidding for cladding contracts that require certified, competent operatives

We deliver this NVQ nationwide, on your own site, working around your existing job and workload so you don’t need to travel or take time off to complete it.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal academic entry requirements for this qualification, but candidates must be at least 16 years old on the day they register.

Candidates must be employed in a role where they can generate workplace evidence for each unit, or enrolled on a training course that includes employer placements to allow the same — evidence of practical skills cannot be simulated.

All candidates will complete an initial skills assessment to identify any knowledge gaps and plan the right assessment route for their role and experience.

Qualification Structure

To achieve the ProQual Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Cladding Occupations, candidates must complete:

Mandatory Units

• Conforming to General Health, Safety and Welfare in the Workplace
• Conforming to Productive Working Practices in the Workplace
• Moving, Handling and Storing Resources in the Workplace
• Preparing Resources for the Installation of Sheeting and Cladding Materials on Roofs and Walls in the Workplace
• Installing Sheeting and Cladding Systems on Roofs and Walls in the Workplace
• Installing Rainwater Goods on Sheeting and Cladding on Roofs and Walls in the Workplace

Optional Units (complete one)

• Refurbishing or Replacing Sheeting and Cladding on Roofs or Walls in the Workplace
• Repairing Sheeting and Cladding Systems on Roofs and Walls in the Workplace
• Installing Solar Collectors to Roofs in the Workplace
• Preparing and Operating Ergonomic Manipulating Machines to Lift and Transfer Loads in the Workplace
• Preparing and Operating Scissor-Type Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWP) in the Workplace
• Preparing and Operating Boom-Type Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWP) in the Workplace
• Preparing and Operating Mast Climber Type Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWP) in the Workplace

How You’re Assessed

This is a workplace-based NVQ, meaning your everyday work activities provide the evidence required to demonstrate competence.

Assessment methods may include:

• Assessor observations
• Professional discussions
• Witness testimonies
• Work products and site records
• Assignments and reports
• Oral and written questioning
• Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

Our assessors work around your existing responsibilities, making the process flexible and straightforward while minimising disruption to your workload.

Certification

Upon successful completion, candidates will receive:

• A ProQual certificate for Level 2 in Cladding Occupations (Construction), listing the units achieved

CITB Grant Funding

CITB-registered employers may be eligible to claim a £600 Short Qualification Grant upon successful completion of this NVQ.
