About the NVQ

Senior management in construction covers a huge range of roles, but they all carry the same weight: accountability for strategy, people and outcomes at the highest level. The Level 7 NVQ Diploma in Construction Senior Management gives experienced senior managers a nationally recognised way to have that experience formally assessed and certified.

If you’re already working at this level, this NVQ gives you formal, recognised proof of your competence — and opens the door to the Black Managers CSCS Card.

Who Is This NVQ For?

This qualification covers a wide range of senior job roles across construction — anyone already working at senior management level who wants formal recognition of that experience.

It’s particularly well suited to:

• Senior managers and directors across a range of construction disciplines
• Professionals leading strategy, operations or major programmes at senior level
• Experienced managers progressing from Level 6 into a formally recognised senior leadership qualification

We deliver this NVQ nationwide, on your own site, working around your existing job and workload so you don’t need to travel or take time off to complete it.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this senior management NVQ.

All candidates complete an initial skills assessment to identify any knowledge gaps and plan the right assessment route for their role and experience.

Qualification Structure

To achieve the ProQual Level 7 NVQ Diploma in Construction Senior Management, candidates must complete:

Mandatory Units

• Manage project processes in construction management
• Manage teams in construction management
• Provide advice, judgement and service ethically in construction management
• Develop self and others in construction management
• Control projects in construction management
• Plan a construction organisation’s workforce

Optional Units (complete a minimum of 620 TQT)

• Direct the management of design development and processes in construction management
• Prepare and agree a project brief and outline programme in construction management
• Sustainability and environmental impact of developments in construction management
• Evaluate sustainable resources and requirements for the whole lifecycle of a construction project
• Establish project procurement arrangements in construction management
• Ensure that contracts are prepared, negotiated and agreed in construction management
• Evaluate and progress the resolution of contractual disputes in construction management
• Manage tendering processes in construction management
• Manage the preparation and submission of estimates, bids and tenders in construction management
• Control budgets and contract payment entitlement in construction management
• Manage marketing and customer service in construction management
• Manage the handover of the construction project in the workplace
• Implement, monitor and control strategic procurement systems in construction management

This is a workplace-based NVQ, meaning your everyday work becomes the evidence. Assessment methods include:

• Assessor observations
• Professional discussions
• Witness testimonies
• Work products and job records
• Assignments or reports
• Knowledge questions
• Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

Certification

Upon successful completion, candidates will receive:

• A ProQual certificate for Level 7 in Construction Senior Management

CITB Grant Funding

CITB-registered employers may be eligible to claim a £600 Short Qualification Grant upon successful completion of this NVQ.
