About the NVQ

Cladding is precise, safety-critical work — installing sheeting and cladding systems and rainwater goods to roofs and walls, including curved and complex formations, and taking on the planning, coordination and problem-solving that comes with more responsibility on site. The Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Cladding Occupations gives experienced cladders a nationally recognised way to have that higher level of competence formally assessed.

Who Is This NVQ For?

This Level 3 NVQ is built for people already working in cladding installation, who want that experience formally recognised and are ready to demonstrate greater responsibility on site.

It’s particularly well suited to:

• Experienced cladders who’ve already completed a Level 2 NVQ and are ready to formalise the extra responsibility they’ve taken on
• Installers with experience on curved roofs, complex junctions and other non-standard formations, alongside standard sheeting and cladding work
• Cladders who take work through from start to finish, including fitting rainwater goods and building relationships with other trades, customers and site management
• Working foremen, leading hands or site supervisors who want a nationally recognised qualification that reflects the seniority they already have on site
• Contractors bidding for contracts that specifically call for Level 3 qualified cladding operatives

We deliver this NVQ nationwide, on your own site, working around your existing job and workload so you don’t need to travel or take time off to complete it.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this construction NVQ.

All candidates complete an initial skills assessment to identify any knowledge gaps and plan the right assessment route for their role and experience.

Qualification Structure

To achieve the ProQual Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Cladding Occupations, candidates must complete:

Mandatory Units

• Confirming work activities and resources for an occupational work area in the workplace
• Developing and maintaining good occupational working relationships in the workplace
• Confirming the occupational method of work in the workplace
• Conforming to general health, safety and welfare in the workplace
• Preparing resources for the installation of sheeting and cladding materials on roofs and walls in the workplace
• Installing sheeting and cladding systems on roofs and walls in the workplace
• Installing rainwater goods on sheeting and cladding on roofs and walls in the workplace
• Installing sheeting and cladding systems to curved and complex roof and wall formations in the workplace

Optional Units (choose one)

• Refurbishing or replacing sheeting and cladding on roofs or walls in the workplace
• Repairing sheeting and cladding systems on roofs and walls in the workplace
• Installing solar collectors to roofs in the workplace
• Preparing and operating ergonomic manipulating machines to lift and transfer loads in the workplace
• Preparing and operating scissor-type Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWP) in the workplace
• Preparing and operating boom-type Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWP) in the workplace
• Preparing and operating mast climber-type Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWP) in the workplace
• Setting out secondary dimensional work control in the workplace

This is a workplace-based NVQ, meaning your everyday work activities provide the evidence required to demonstrate competence.

Assessment methods may include:

• Assessor observations
• Professional discussions
• Witness testimonies
• Work products and site records
• Assignments and reports
• Oral and written questioning
• Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

Our assessors work around your existing responsibilities, making the process flexible and straightforward while minimising disruption to your workload.

Certification

Upon successful completion, candidates will receive:

• A ProQual certificate for Level 3 in Cladding Occupations (Construction)

CITB Grant Funding

CITB-registered employers may be eligible to claim a £600 Short Qualification Grant upon successful completion of this NVQ.

What CSCS Card Can I Get With This NVQ?

Once you have:

• Completed this Level 3 qualification, and
• Passed the CITB Specialist Work at Height Health, Safety and Environment Test (within the last two years)
