Course Overview
A CPCS plant training course covering safe operation, pre-use checks, practical machine control, site safety and CPCS assessment requirements for A77 Telescopic Handler 360 Slew.
Entry Requirements
- Valid CITB Health, Safety and Environment test passed within the previous two years before course start or CPCS test date.
- Good spoken and written English. Candidates should raise any concerns before booking.
Teaching and Assessment
- 4 days of training.
- 1 day of testing, including theory test and a practical test of approximately 3 hours.
Course Aims
- Provides training and testing in the operation of a telescopic handler 360 slew machine.
- Supports candidates working towards CPCS operator recognition.
- Focuses on safe travel, lifting, slewing, fork-mounted loads and suspended-load operation.
Course Content
- Identify principal components, construction, controls and terminology.
- Follow the operator’s handbook, information sources, regulations and legislation.
- Complete and record pre-use checks.
- Understand the need for appropriate documentation.
- Configure and prepare the machine for site and highway travel.
- Travel with and without loads across level, rough, undulating and inclined ground.
- Manoeuvre in restricted areas with and without loads.
- Follow signaller instructions and recognised signals.
- Configure the machine for lifting, loading and transfer duties in line with risk assessments and method statements.
- Attach and remove forks and hoist-rope attachments.
- Respond to proximity hazards, including underground and overhead services.
- Understand slinging principles, lifting accessories and correct attachment methods.
- Understand ground support, stability requirements and causes of instability.
- Lift and place suspended and fork-mounted loads from varied locations including vehicles.
- Work under blocked, free-on-wheels and pick-and-carry duties where applicable.
- Use the machine’s full slewing capability for lifting, transfer and placement.
- Control load swing and manage visibility restrictions.
- Place loads safely, including where they are out of sight of the operator.
- Maintain safe working situations throughout.
Outcome
- CPCS testing supports candidates working towards the appropriate operator card for the category.
- Next steps
- Candidates should complete the relevant NVQ route where required to progress to the CPCS Blue Competent Operator Card.

- Intermediate Course: 3 Days, Wednesday to Friday, £1800 + VAT
