Description
About the Course
When a load can’t be reached by a crane, it has to be lifted and moved into place by hand-operated equipment such as chain blocks, lever hoists and pull-lifts, rigged from certified strong points. Moving a load in stages from one lifting point to the next like this is known as fleeting. It’s specialist work in plant rooms, power stations, factories and other confined spaces, where loads have to be moved over, around, through and under obstacles. A badly rigged load or an overloaded anchor point can fail without warning. The NPORS N047 Rigging and Fleeting Loads course gives you the training, testing and recognised card you need to rig and fleet loads safely and legally.
Whether you’re new to rigging and fleeting or you’re an experienced rigger who needs to renew, we have a route for you. You can choose a full 3-day novice course or a 1-day refresher course.

How You’re Assessed
Novice route (3 days): Days 1–2 cover classroom theory and hands-on practical training in rigging and fleeting loads. On day 3, you’ll sit the NPORS theory and practical tests. With a maximum of 6 candidates per instructor, you’ll get plenty of hands-on time.
Refresher route (1 day): This route is for riggers who already hold a valid or recently expired N047 card. It refreshes your knowledge of current legislation and good practice before you sit the NPORS tests.
What Card Will I Get?
Pass both tests and you’ll receive one of the following:
- NPORS Traditional Card: valid for 5 years. No HS&E touchscreen test needed.
- NPORS Red Trained Operator Card (CSCS logo): valid for 2 years. Only available if you’ve passed the CITB Operatives HS&E touchscreen test within the last 2 years.
Both cards cover the N047 Rigging and Fleeting Loads category.
