NVQ Qualifications

Get Formally Recognised for the Skills You Already Have

At Dynamic Training and Assessments Ltd, we offer a wide range of National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs), from Level 2 to Level 7, designed to formally recognise your existing skills, knowledge and competence in your job role.

What is an NVQ?

An NVQ is a work-based qualification that assesses your competence in the tasks you carry out every day. NVQs focus on real-world performance, allowing you to gain a recognised qualification based on the experience you already have.

Key Benefits of NVQs

  • Work-Based Assessment – Everything is completed around your job — there’s no need to step away from your day-to-day role to gain your qualification.
  • Flexible Delivery – NVQs fit around your schedule and workplace, rather than requiring fixed classroom time.
  • Practical Evidence – You demonstrate competence through the real tasks and activities you already carry out, not through exams alone.
  • Levels matched to your role – Each NVQ level reflects the responsibilities of your job, whether you work in a skilled trade, a specialist occupation, or a supervisory position.

A Simple, Hassle-Free Process

We make starting your NVQ as straightforward as possible.

To get registered, you only need to provide:

  • A completed registration form

Once received, we register you immediately and introduce you to your dedicated assessor.

Full Support Throughout Your NVQ

During your qualification, you will receive:

  • One-to-one support from a dedicated assessor
  • A site visit arranged at a convenient time (if required)
  • Guidance to help you build your online portfolio

Our process is designed to be smooth, supportive and efficient from start to finish.

How NVQs are Assessed

Assessment for an NVQ is thorough, supportive, and focused on confirming that you meet the required national occupational standards. All NVQs are completed through our online Quals Direct e-portfolio system, where you can upload evidence, complete knowledge tasks, and receive feedback from your assessor.

Throughout the process, your assessor will use a range of methods to build a complete picture of your competence:

  1. Site Observation – your assessor visits you in your workplace to observe you carrying out your normal duties, linking your real-world tasks to the required NVQ criteria.
  2. Professional Discussion – a recorded discussion (in person or via Teams) covering your role, responsibilities, achievements, and day-to-day tasks; formal enough to meet assessment requirements, but designed to feel comfortable and constructive.
  3. Knowledge Questions –one-to-one discussions with your assessor covering the knowledge elements of the qualification, to confirm you understand the principles behind your work and how they relate to national standards.
  4. Product Evidence – examples of your work uploaded to your online portfolio, based on an Evidence List that will be supplied to you at booking.
  5. Witness Testimony – A supervisor, manager or colleague who has observed your work can provide a witness testimony confirming your competence and the standard of your work.

Once all assessment elements are complete, your NVQ is internally quality‑checked before certification is requested.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does an NVQ take to complete?

This varies depending on the level and occupation, and can range from as little as 2 weeks to up to 18 months. Get in touch and we can give you a clearer idea based on your specific role and qualification.

Do I need to already be working in the industry to start an NVQ?

Yes — as NVQs are work-based qualifications, your assessor will need to see you carrying out the relevant role and be able to gather the right evidence from your day-to-day work.

What happens during a site visit?

Your assessor visits your workplace to observe you carrying out your normal duties, helping to link your everyday tasks to the required NVQ criteria. Site visits are arranged at a time that’s convenient for you.

Is there a cost involved, and does funding help apply?

Yes, there’s a cost, which varies depending on the NVQ level. CITB funding may also be available, and this varies by level too — get in touch and we can talk you through the costs and any funding that applies to your qualification.

What if I don’t have much written evidence for my portfolio?

Evidence doesn’t need to be limited to documents — site observations, professional discussions, and witness testimonies can all contribute towards demonstrating your competence.

How long will it take for my certificate to arrive?

Please allow 15 working days for your certificate to arrive. Certificates are issued electronically by the Awarding Body rather than as paper copies.

Assessors Who Know Your Industry

Every NVQ candidate is supported by a dedicated assessor with genuine industry experience, so assessments are grounded in how your job actually works, not just theory. Our NVQs are accredited by leading Awarding Bodies including CPCS, NPORS, CITB, and ProQual, ensuring your qualification is properly recognised across the construction industry.

As members of the Training Provider Network, we’re recognised within the industry’s official network of quality-assured training providers, giving individuals and employers extra confidence in the qualifications we deliver.

Why Choose an NVQ?

  • Practical Learning – Gain hands-on experience that directly applies to your career.
  • Career Progression – Progress through levels to enhance your qualifications and advance in your field — many candidates use their NVQ to move from operative-level roles into supervisory or management positions.
  • Tailored to You – Flexible assessments allow you to learn and grow at your own pace.

Who It Suits?

NVQs are a good fit for experienced operators looking for formal recognition of their skills, workers aiming for a promotion, or anyone who needs a recognised qualification to meet a specific industry or compliance requirement.

Where an NVQ Can Take You

An NVQ isn’t just a one-off qualification — it’s a step on a longer path. Many candidates use their NVQ to progress from operative-level roles into supervisory or management positions, or as a stepping stone toward higher-level qualifications. Formal recognition of your skills can also support applications for industry cards and further career opportunities.
